Description The Havanese is a small dog that comes in a long and short haired version. They have strong legs and are friendly and intelligent. | ||
Size The Havanese is 8-11 inches tall and weighs 7-13 pounds. | ||
Coat The Havanese have a double coat. The under coat is soft and light in texture throughout. The outer coat carries slightly more weight. The long hair is abundant and, ideally, wavy. | ||
Color The standard colors of the Havanese are black, black & silver, black & tan, black brindle, blue, blue brindle, chocolate, cream, fawn, gold, gold brindle, gold sable, red, red brindle, red sable, silver, silver brindle, and white. | ||
Temperament The Havanese is an intelligent and friendly dog. They are very gentle and excellent around children, dogs, and other pets. They are also cheerful and social. | ||
Care The coat can be clipped short for easier care. Long coats should be brushed several times a weak. Clip excess hair from between the pads of the feet. Check their eyes and ears regularly. | ||
Exercise The Havanese should be taken on daily walks. Their need for exercise is average compared to other breeds. | ||
Training Being an intelligent dog the Havanese can be easily trained. They do well in obedience classes and pickup quickly. | ||
Shedding The Havanese is good for allergy sufferers. They are a Non-shedding - Hyper Allergenic dog. | ||
Barking & Howling This breed tends not to bark much. | ||
Life Expectancy A well cared for Havanese can live around 14-15 years. | ||
Health This breed is healthy in general, but some may be prone to luxating patellas and cataracts. | ||
